Hi there, I am Lena
Project manager. Parent. Expat living in Berlin, Germany.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to Germany wasn’t in the plans for a long time. Like many international assignments, it started as a work opportunity and soon grew into something far larger.
The early months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than they should have.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. Yet, gradually routines took shape. We found places that suited us, met other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Created BinaryForestHarbor
The bulk of online information was either corporate relocation guidance or superficial tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Germany.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Practical experience gained from living in Germany
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site ISN'T:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- A generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Germany continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue recording what we find.
If you have questions about family life in Berlin or anywhere in Germany, please feel free to reach out.
Cheers,
Lena
